The production methods for Piccinini’s “The Young Family” based on mixed media. That means this piece of work might have combined different types of material which may used in other types of visual art. It is basically a sculpture made of plaster which may suggested by the skin texture on that pig. Then, after the shape was built, it may be painted, because the original color of plaster should be white. However, in this work presents a skin color of human. Thus, Piccinini may have mixed the elements of sculpture and painting into his work.
Swallow’s “Everything is nothing” is made of wood, and wrapped by a fabric helmet. What he did was possibly to get a piece of wood, and made it into a skull with chisels. After digging the holes for eyes and mouth, smooth it with rasp or sandpaper. Finally, match it into the helmet. As the surface is really smooth, it may take long time to make this project.
